Keepin’ MMA Real
Our mixed martial art program is made up primarily of three different fighting systems. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Muay Thai, and Wrestling. Our head MMA instructor is local pro fighter Billy “Boojitsu” Buch who is currently undefeated. From time to time Billy will bring in some of his instructors and training partners to help with teaching the class. The other instructors on our teaching staff include Muay Thai instructor Blake Rotter and Texas State Wrestling coach Jason Rodriguez.
Muay Thai
The art of 8 limbs. This style of kickboxing is from Thailand. This is the root of all modern kickboxing. Muay Thai is a no-nonsense martial art system that uses kicks, punches, knee and elbow striking to finish opponents off.
Brazillian Jiu Jitsu
Brazillian Jiu Jitsu uses take downs, body positioning, and submission holds to make opponents stop fighting at the risk of suffering greater injury. It teaches that a smaller, weaker person can successfully defend against a bigger, stronger assailant by using leverage and proper technique—most notably by applying joint-locks and chokeholds to defeat the other person. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu training can be used for sport grappling tournaments (gi and no-gi) and mixed martial arts (MMA) competition or self defense. We only train “no-gi” jiu jitsu.
Wrestling
Wrestling is a form of grappling which employs techniques such as clinch fighting, throws and takedowns, joint locks, pins and other grappling holds. Wrestling techniques have been incorporated into other martial arts as well as military hand-to-hand combat systems. We have incorporated ours into our MMA program to teach take downs, take down defenses, and “ground and pound”. Every Thursday night at 7:00 we bring in Texas State Wrestling coach Jason Rodriquez to train our students. Jason is an excellent instructor, coach, and is currently ranked in the top of his weight class as a collegiate wrestler.
